Day two of rodeo included some fast times and high scores for local cowboys and girls. The first events included bareback, tie down roping, saddle bronc and steer wrestling. Herbert saddle bronc rider Ryan Pipke put in a solid 8 second ride for some hometown pride. Intermission included Mutton Bustin’. Kids 6 and under, tested out a career as a pro cowboy or girl as they strapped on their hockey helmets, mounted sheep and held on. Part two of Saturday’s rodeo started with ladies barrel racing and continued with team roping. Healers on all fronts seemed to struggle with roping the back legs despite their best efforts. Saturday’s rodeo finished with bull riding including a solid ride by top Canada Safeway bull rider, Tanner Byrnes of Prince Albert. The evening wrapped up with the rodeo dance and live music provided by Long Shot.
The Herbert Stampede is the highest paying semi-pro rodeo in Canada. The cowboy or girl winning the most money earns the John Klassen memorial trophy. The stampede ended Sunday with the cowboy church service and final afternoon rodeo events.
