Maple Creek - Murraydale Rodeo
Warm weather and blue skies greeted rodeo goers at the annual Murraydale Stampede and family picnic. Cowboys and cowgirls of all ages participated in the 100th rodeo with a range of rodeo events. The day began with bareback and saddle bronc riding. Despite a few tough rides, and a few particularly unruly broncs, riders from Maple Creek, Medicine Hat, and Cadillac rode well. The event continued with calf roping, junior steer riding, and barrel racing. Barrel riders as young as five and six took turns on the course, some clocking times as fast as 19 seconds. The rodeo ended with bull riding and relay races.

The weekend long event drew over 1000 people to the Cypress Hills. Hundreds of campers and trailers surrounded the rodeo arena. The North West Mounted Police demonstrated a Skirmish Line, firing their guns in the rodeo arena. After the rodeo concluded, the Nekaneet First Nations performed a mini Pow Wow demonstrating the song and dance of the indigenous people. The annual stampede began as a community picnic and rodeo almost 100 years ago. The day was dedicated to remembering the history of the event and the community.
