City Crews Busy Spraying for Mosquitoes
The City’s Parks and Recreational Department were in marshes and wetlands yesterday within an 8-mile radius of Swift Current spraying larvicide in efforts to protect the public from West Nile Virus. Even though it’s been fairly dry this year West Nile is still present and people should protect themselves by wearing Deet bug repellent and covering up in the evening hours. People should also clear their backyards of water collecting in birdbaths and potted plant holders as this is where mosquitoes will lay their eggs.
80 % of people who contract the virus don’t show any symptoms at all. The remaining 20% will develop illness ranging from mild to severe with symptoms like head and stomach aches, fever and drowsiness.
