City of Swift Current Expands Recycling Program
There's a new piece of equipment at the City of Swift Current 's Landfill. A special crusher designed to crush old concrete, asphalt and glass is now being used to rid the landfill of the many piles of material. Crushed concrete can be used for back-fill material in roadbeds or as a deep fill, while crushed asphalt can be used as a dust free road topping or even in new pavement projects. Crushed glass can be used effectively as a marker layer in utility trenches or as a rodent deterrent around utility boxes.
Steve's Excavating has made the approximate $500 000.00 investment to purchase the equipment to crush cement, asphalt and glass, with the City purchasing the crushed material as required for back-fill use. Local Media and City officials were given a demonstration of the crusher in action on Thursday afternoon.
