Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up, Gear Up

SGI and Saskatchewan Policing agencies are teaming up again this week for another traffic safety blitz. Law enforcement across the Province will be targeting drivers Today and Thursday addressing seat belt use and using cellphones while driving in addition to motorcycle safety. According to SGI, seatbelt use and distracted driving are two major factors for fatalities and collisions on Saskatchewan roads. SGI also wishes to remind motorists the importance of sharing the road with motorcycles, as well as remind motorcyclists the importance of proper gear and the benefits of training. In 2011, there were 289 collisions in Saskatchewan involving motorcycles, resulting in 205 injuries and four fatalities.

In May over 1300 tickets were issued during the impaired driving traffic safety blitz, Operation Overdrive with over 100 of the tickets issued for alcohol-related offences.
