Saskatchewan's Growth Shines in Census Stats

The latest stats are in from the 2011 Census and Saskatchewan's population increased by 65 000 residents between 2006 and 2011. Taking a closer look at communities here in the Southwest in 2011-former population in brackets : Swift Current 15 503 (14 946); Shaunavon 1756(1691), Maple Creek 2176 (2198), Leader 821(881), Herbert 759 (742). Across the Province, Regina 193 100 (179 282), Saskatoon 222 189 (202 408), Yorkton 15 669 (15 038), North Battleford 13 888 (13 190), Prince Albert 35 129 (34, 127), Moose Jaw 33 274 (32 132).

Nationally, the Canadian population grew to 33.5 Million; an increase of 5.9 percent from 2006 to 2011. Stats further indicate, for the first time, Western Canada has surpassed Eastern Canada in population numbers.
