SCN a Casualty of Provincial Budget
For 20 years the Saskatchewan Communications Network has not only aired Saskatchewan produced programming but has also been a great partner to the Television and Film community. SCN was often the first step for many Saskatchewan producers to receive seed money for television and film projects and leveraged as a spring board for future project funding. Now following Wednesday's Provincial Budget announcement, SCN will conclude its contracts with current producers, cease broadcast operations in May and the approximate 35 employees at the Network will be out of work as of the end of June. One of the many programs now airing and will cease to appear on SCN following the Budget announcement is Southwest TV News. Southwest TV News will continue its award winning news coverage on-line at www.southwesttvnews.com and on SaskTel MAX Local on Demand.
The Government of Saskatchewan will however, maintain its satellite distance education classes, Provincial Public Safety Telecommunications Network and the broadcast of the Saskatchewan Legislative Channel.
