Effective October 24, Swift Current Mayor and Councilors will receive a pay raise. The new pay scale for remuneration will see the Mayor receiving approximately $50 000 per year or 42 percent of the CAO's salary and each City Councilor paid approximately $17 500 annually or 35 percent of the Mayor's salary. The current salary for the Mayor is $38 088 and $7445 per year for Councilors. According to the City's Chief Financial Officer, Swift Current has trailed behind other similar sized municipalities across the Province in its' remuneration for Mayor and Council and in order to keep attracting qualified candidates for Council, an increase was imminent.

Mayor and Council voted in favor of the proposed remuneration increase at Monday's meeting in Chambers.
