Swift Current Drag Racing
The Swift Current Regional Airport is generally the site for a range of passenger and cargo service flying in and out of the City. However,on August 9, the runway was transformed into a local raceway, as drivers from Swift Current, Regina, Medicine Hat and Brooks Alberta brought in their treasured vehicles for the second racing event of the season. Considered to be outlaw racing the local club holds this annual event as a way for enthusiasts to participate in the sport of racing no matter the car or skill level. From souped up cars of all makes and models to motorcycles and snowmobiles, everyone came to race.

One of the more unique vehicles, was a 1970 Front End Dragster, (shown in the picture) owner and driver, Darren Jensen of Swift Current says he’s living out his lifelong interest in racing when he gets behind the wheel of this car. It’s 400 horsepower engine, 2 speed power glide transmission and butterfly steering wheel make it one of the fasted cars at the race track topping 147 miles per hour in just over 9 seconds flat an experience which Jensen says is unbelievable.
